Kirk Herbstreit makes bold statement on Arch Manning-Quinn Ewers Longhorns QB battle, calls into question which Texas QB could consider transfer portal after College Football Playoff

Kirk Herbstreit declared Texas as Quinn Ewers’ team on the November 30 edition of SportsCenter, ending the debate about whether or not Arch Manning should have a chance to run the Longhorns’ offense.

“If Quinn Ewers is healthy, this is his team,” Herbstreit said (h/t On3). “There’s no issue. If you talk to Sark, it doesn’t even really get brought up. Now, if the ankle doesn’t hold up, if he’s limping, then that’s a different story. Then obviously you’ve got to go to Arch Manning. With his ability to run, even their offense would change a bit with Arch in there. This is an offense, if you talk to Sark, they’re coming into this game completely thinking that Quinn Ewers is going to be their quarterback. Their attack and their plan and how they want to try to move the ball is with Quinn Ewers.

“I think the only time you would see Arch Manning come in is if that ankle is just not holding up. And then they would, obviously, like any other backup quarterback have to go to him. But yeah, Arch Manning, for obvious reasons, creates a lot of a lot of interest there in Bristol.”

If Texas is Ewers’s team now, one would think that wouldn’t change next season if the San Antonio native decided to return for another collegiate season. Perhaps it’s Manning, not Ewers, who would consider hitting the transfer portal to become a starter somewhere else.

Steve Sarkisian has repeatedly claimed that both players have been supportive of each other all season, but Manning may not be happy that potentially getting the nod under center is not even a conversation.
